Bruises.

I had the best weekend EVERR!!! On Friday night we stayed up really late playing truth or dare, which turned into just truth and everyone answered the questions. On Saturday we were up a little early, getting ready to be filmed by OMNI TV for a commercial promoting Katimavik. It was really fun; we went to the park and played soccer and tag and all kinds of stuff. :) They need one of us to do the voiceover for the commercial, and I think it's this week or next week.

That night, five of us went downtown to play Capture the Flag. It was awesome. Of course, we got separated from each other, but we met up somehow. We did a LOT of running and my legs are hurting SO badly today. Yesterday we had a KCC meeting in the morning which went very smoothly, then got ready to go to Little India for Diwali. It was awesome. We then went back to the house and had Indian curry that Annie made and samossas that we bought at a market on Gerrard Street. It was really spicy and filling and I didn't have very much. While we were eating we watched a Bollywood movie which was HILARIOUS. I don't remember the name of it, but it translated to Wretched Love or something. There were english subtitles and it was the most entertaining movie I've ever seen.

After the movie pretty much everyone went to bed but I had to do the dishes and the house managers this week had to make a meal plan. I sat with them for a long time and we talked about random stuff and went to bed at around 1. This morning wasn't awesome at all; getting out of bed was hard.

This week I'm working an extra half hour every day so I can leave two hours early on Friday because Dan and my mom are coming up for the weekend. :D I'M SO EXCITED. We're going to see the International Jumping Championships and I can't think of anything I'd rather do on a Friday night with my mom and my boyfriend. Besides riding horses rather than watching them jump over six foot fences. :P

This week's gonna be awesome. :)

Awesome Soup.

My roommate Annie is really good at making soup. Just sayin.

Last night at the house was soo awesome. There were four people missing for dinner, which doesn't sound like many, but it made for a really nice, quiet night. There were only six of us there for dinner; Dara, Annie, Catherine, Pascale, Stanley, and me. We dimmed the lights and played some really chill classical music. It was wonderful.

Later on in the night we played Clue, which failed, because at some point someone guessed that it was Ms. Peacock in the Study with the Wrench, and nobody had any of those cards. It turns out that someone had thought that Ms. Peacock was the purple one, when she's the blue one. So we stopped playing Clue. (It was Mrs. White in the Study with the Wrench, by the way.)

I also talked to my sister last night. I miss her. She's in British Columbia at school, and I don't know when I'm going to see her next. LAAAAMMEEE. oh well.

I'M GOING TO THE ROYAL WINTER FAIR NEXT WEEKEND. just sayin. My mom e-mailed me yesterday and told me she had the tickets and that she'd be here on the Friday with my boyfriend. SO EXCITED. It doesn't get much better than the Royal.

I fell asleep on the couch last night, and woke up in my bed. Strange. I probably went by myself, but I'll have to ask. :P

I'm super stoked for tonight; we have a free block and I think that Dara and I are going out. Even though I have no money. No biggie. :)

What's for Dinner?

It's so cold outside. :(

I had a shower this morning, then I went outside to catch the bus to the subway station and my hair froze. I know that it could definitely be a lot colder, and I know that as a Canadian, this is nothing. But honestly, it snowed on Halloween. I don't think I've ever seen that. It's strange.

My dad says that he picked up my winter boots today at Sears. Awesome! I need to get some huge socks to wear with my huge boots, and a lot more cotton tights. I also need a hat. And money to buy all this stuff. :|

Last night after dinner we had a workshop that ran really, really late. It was midnight by the time we were finished, and it would have been later if we hadn't decided to put another part on Friday instead of staying up until 1.

Halloween was really awesome. We handed out play-dough and watched Peter Pan, which was awesome. I pretty much just had a great weekend. :)

I leave for Charlottetown in a month, and I'm super excited. I can't believe that I've been in Toronto for two months already, but I also can't believe that it's only been two months. I feel like I've done so much and been through so much in such a short space of time, and the fact that I'm going home in four months is ridiculous. Of course, I'm excited to go home and see my friends and family, but I'm really gonna miss my group. :(

But that's four months away. I guess I shouldn't be thinking about going home just yet. :)

I think I'm gonna start bringing a lunch to work. :)

Happy Halloweekend!

Holy, awesome day today. I woke up to the sound of someone spraypainting his head purple this morning, and headed off to work early because I had nothing else to do. I got a hot chocolate at Second Cup and sat for a bit, and got to the office ten minutes early. Everyone's dressed up and it's hilarious. I'm not really dressed up as anything, but I dropped my phone like 6 times this morning, so I'm calling myself The Girl Who Dropped Her Cell Phone. We also have Carmen SanDiego, a recovering goth, a vampire, a fisherman, Waldo, a dunce, a policewoman, Situation and Pauly D, and many more. We had a vote this morning and Carmen Sandiego (Niv) won.

Tonight at the house, we're watching Rocky Horror Picture Show and doing all the prompts and stuff. It's gonna be awesome. Funny story. Someone kindly brought us a DVD player and a remote, and we have a huge TV, but there are no cords to connect the DVD player to the TV. -.- Awesome... I have no idea what we're going to do. We'll figure it out; we're Katimasmart.

We're having the coolest Halloween party ever on Sunday, There's gonna be stories, games, and lots and lots of awesome.

Have a super sick weekend, TIG! I know I will.

My Name

Translations available in: English (original) | German

Today we had a workshop from Tracey Erin Smith, and she helped us to look a little deeper into ourselves and bring out our story, as well as to get us more comfortable with public speaking. It was awesome, and this is one of the activities; we had to write for ten minutes about the history of our name, why we were named what we were, how we feel and have felt about our names, and what nicknames we're had or have.

Andrea Elaine Plant

I don't really know why my mom decided to name me Andrea, but she says that it's because it means "strong" and that my middle name means "bright light". She says that she looked at me when I was born and just knew my name. My last name, Plant, is English; my father was born in England. I like my name some days, and other days I think it's a weird old lady name. It'll be perfect when I'm a weird old lady. A nickname I've had my whole life is Andi. Some people call me Dee, or Plant. My dad had all the usual nicknames a father would have for a daughter; Panda Bear, Pumpkin, Schmo, WeeBear. I can't think of another name that would suit me. I think the meaning of my name comes through because my Katimavik group says that I'm like the sun of the group, the happy light. I've also been told that I have a strong personality; I am opinionated and not always afraid to speak my mind. It's not often that I meet someone with the same name as me, and I like it that way because it's a lot less confusing. I'm not sure if my last name has any particular meaning. I should find out. I think that when I get married, I'll keep my last name because my name sounds weird in front of anything besides Plant. Maybe I'll hyphenate. I guess I'll decide when I get there. As a child, I always wanted to change my name. I hated it. But I also got mad when people messed it up, like spelling Andi with a 'y' or with an 'ie'. No. Just an 'i'. 'Y's are for boys.
